Welcome back from Spring Break! It's been wonderful hearing all the exciting stories about family vacations, teepee sleeping, and various adventures. The tales of fun and exploration have set the tone for a vibrant return to the classroom.
Test-Taking Strategies and Monday's Big Test
This week, we dedicated time to sharpening our test-taking strategies in preparation for the big test on Monday. Despite five students participating in the test and missing school, classes will proceed as usual. Your support and encouragement during this time are greatly appreciated.
Grammar Mastery: Numbers and Hyphens
Our grammar lessons took a focused turn, honing in on incorporating numbers into our writing. We delved into the art of spelling numbers correctly and understanding when to use hyphens. These skills are essential for effective communication and expression.
Acidic Adventures in Science Class
In science, we embarked on a fascinating exploration of acids. While the idea of drinking a glass of acid may sound alarming, rest assured, it was all in good fun with a glass of lemonade! We delved into the potent effects of acids, especially in strong concentrations like hydrochloric acid. Testing acidity with baking soda and baking powder added an exciting hands-on element to our learning.
Math Marvels: Fractions, Multiplication, and Testing Techniques
Our mathematical journey continued with a focus on fractions and the multiplication of large numbers. Khan Academy provided valuable support, and we began learning testing techniques in preparation for the upcoming big test. The combination of conceptual understanding and practical skills is paving the way for success.
Classroom Games and Fun with Mr. Garate
Mr. Garate brought an extra dose of fun to our week with engaging classroom games. The enjoyment was evident as students continued playing the same games during recess and lunch. Learning through play is a key aspect of fostering a positive and enthusiastic learning environment.
Robotics Adventures: Weather and Natural Disasters
In our robotics sessions, we delved into the realm of weather and natural disasters. Given the local concern about floods, we discussed ways to protect homes and save lives during such calamities. The highlight was building rescue helicopters designed to aid people and animals after a flood. Check out the captivating pictures [here](insert link)!
Writing and History: Two-Paragraph Papers
In the realm of writing and history, we embarked on a creative journey with two-paragraph papers. The focus was on crafting captivating topic and clincher sentences, infused with exotic and adventurous adjectives. This exercise aims to enhance expressive writing skills and historical understanding.
Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend, and to those taking the test on Monday, good luck! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
The Teacher (Tim)
