As we reflect on the past week, it's been an enriching journey filled with learning, creativity, and meaningful discussions. Here's a recap of the exciting happenings in our vibrant classroom:
"100 Dresses": Fostering Positive Discussions
Our literary exploration took us into the world of "100 Dresses" this week. Beyond the captivating storyline, the most rewarding aspect has been the insightful discussions on how we should treat one another. Witnessing the positive and appropriate responses from our students has been truly heartwarming.
Scientific Quest: Journey to Another Planet
In the realm of science, we embarked on an extraordinary quest – the journey to another planet. Our focus was on understanding the sun's role in interplanetary travel. Exploring how light traverses through space and gauging the varying amounts of light each planet receives provided a fascinating insight into our solar system.
Math Mastery: The Big 3 E's
Our mathematical pursuits are centered around the "Big 3 E's" – Expressions, Equations, and Exponents. Collaborating across grades, our students are not only mastering these concepts but also lending a helping hand to their peers in the 4th and 5th grades. These foundational terms will prove essential as they progress throughout the academic year.
History/Writing Adventures with Charlemagne
Delving into history and writing, we've embarked on a journey with Charlemagne, also known as "Charles the Great." This marks a pivotal step in our writing curriculum as students craft informational reports. Each student will select a topic, focusing on constructing 2-3 paragraphs with emphasis on Topic and Clincher sentences, verb dress-ups, and LY adverb dress-ups. Engage with your student about their chosen topic and assist them in gathering information.
Typing Proficiency: A Vital Skill
A gentle reminder about the importance of consistent typing practice at home. With logins in place, students are encouraged to dedicate 15-20 minutes Monday through Friday to enhance their typing skills. Great technique not only ensures accuracy but also leads to faster speeds!
Robotics Adventures: Innovations in Movement
Our robotics journey continues with a focus on the theme of movement. Exploring various technologies to organize and manipulate objects, students crafted forklifts, plows, and even big jaws for lifting items. The creativity and problem-solving skills displayed were truly commendable.
Artistic Triumphs: Glazed and Fired Mugs
Celebrating the completion of our art projects, take a moment to marvel at the incredible mugs our students glazed and fired. The level of creativity showcased is a testament to their artistic prowess.
4H and Animal Care: Guinea Pigs Galore!
In 4H, our exploration of Guinea Pigs continued with hands-on interaction. Learning about their care is an essential life skill, and it's delightful to observe the students discover the unique characteristics of these adorable creatures.
Skiing Preparation: Warm Clothes Needed
While we're postponing our skiing plans due to weather, let's gear up for the winter activities ahead. Please ensure your student brings jackets, gloves, and a hat on Wednesday for a fitting session. We're also pooling together resources to support those who may need assistance in acquiring winter essentials.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education. Here's to another week of exploration and growth!
Warm regards,
The Teacher (Tim)
